Captain Super Sleep

Are your kids having trouble sleeping?

Whether it is your toddler constantly getting out of bed or calling for you in the night, or your five year old who doesn’t want to go to bed in the first place, or even your 18-month old who is still waking every few hours despite all that sleep training… These trials and tribulations at bedtime are simply part and parcel of parenting, right?

The books

SuzZzie Dormir is no ordinary girl. With two renowned sleep scientists for parents who had met whilst studying at the University of Sleepford, SuzZzie was always destined for great things in the world of sleep. As she grew older, SuzZzie realised that the more hours she slept at night, the more powerful she became. The more time she spent in the Great Land of Nod, the more Z’s she added to her special “Super Sleep Squad”. These Zs helped her to complete missions, go on adventures or simply to do good deeds during the day. With her Zs by her side, SuzZzie could do anything. They would help to leap over walls, or come together to form a magic pillow she could fly on, or they’d even sit with her and give her ideas as she came up with her plans to help those who needed her most.

Captain Super Sleep is the first book in a series of books written for children at different stages of development. This first book is aimed at babies and toddlers from birth to three or four years old. The short story, told in a rhyme, will subconsciously embed in your child’s mind the immense importance of sleeping all night. Children will follow SuzZzie on her adventures as she transforms from a little girl into Captain Super Sleep with her Z squad beside her at each twist and turn. Without even knowing it, your children will learn that if they want to run fast, jump high, solve problems and do good deeds, then the first thing they must do is… sleep.

Price

*Seems pretty expensive for a board book for toddlers, right?*

Correct. We don’t hide the fact that our books are _not_ the mass produced, cheaply made and poor quality ones you might find for $5 online.

The book is a little more than your standard board book because:

* It is hand illustrated and drawn by a talented illustrator

* It is backed by research evidence

* It is printed sustainably using FSC managed forestry and paper here in Europe

* It is limited: We don’t have the budget to print 100,000’s of copies to force the price down. It is just me, the author, and Jade, the illustrator.

* By buying our book you are supporting us directly, and not a huge corporation

* The book is of the highest quality both in content, design and finish

The author

Dr. Liam Printer created SuzZzie Dormir and her alter-ego, Captain Super Sleep, during the sleepless nights following the birth of his first child in 2022. Fresh off completing his Doctorate in Education, which focused on motivation, psychology, and the power of storytelling for learning, Liam combined his research with personal experience as a new parent to create this special character.

An Irish native, Liam’s cultural background is steeped in storytelling, folklore, and tales. Now living in Switzerland, he works as a language teacher and researcher, specializing in motivation, language acquisition, and the critical role stories play in children’s cognitive development and psychological well-being. He’s also the creator and host of The Motivated Classroom podcast, with nearly half a million downloads worldwide.

When his daughter was born, Liam was immersed in research about the importance of the words we use with children. Studies show that the way we talk to babies profoundly influences their mindset and self-concept, shaping how they face challenges later in life. With this in mind, Liam began calling Caitlin his “Sleep superhero,” telling her that the more she slept, the more powers she would gain—she’d run faster, be more patient, and solve problems more easily.

As a proud Irishman with storytelling in his blood, it wasn’t long before these bedtime stories turned into Captain Super Sleep. By the time Caitlin was two, she was calling herself “Cap-Tan SupaSlee” and putting herself to bed, fully embracing the idea that sleep makes her stronger. Now, Liam is sharing Captain Super Sleep with the world to help other parents instill the value of sleep in their little ones through fun and engaging storytelling.

The illustrator

Jade Tan is a Malaysian born illustrator, based in Switzerland. She was once a student in Liam’s Spanish class back in 2015 and when he heard she had been studying illustration at university, he reached out to bring his vision for the Captain Super Sleep project to life. With Jade’s illustrative expertise, exceptional creativity and eye for detail, SuzZzie Dormir was born from an abstract concept into the Superhero we know and love today. Since her middle school years, Jade always had a fascination for superheroes and their stories (those close to her knew to gift her Captain America or Spiderman related merchandise). Some of her earlier personal work were fanart of her favorite film or book characters, paying homages to the icons she admired and all the illustrators that came before her.

The character

With two renowned sleep scientists for parents who had met whilst studying at the University of Sleepford, SuzZzie Dormir always knew the value of a full night’s sleep. The more hours she spends in the Great Land of Nod, the more Zs she adds to her Super Sleep Squad. That’s because SuzZzie is no ordinary little girl. Sleep gives her the power to go on adventures and help those in need. With her Z squad beside her, she transforms into… Captain Super Sleep.
